Round 3 in the women's tournament at Australian Open. One of the smallest players in the draw, 

Lauren Davis, current ranking 76, was one of the protagonists of the longest and 

best contest of the women's tournament. Her opponent was top seed Simona Halep. 

Halep had to save three match points before surviving 4-6 6-4 15-13 against Davis. 

Simona was also injured since the very first round. The encounter with Davis lasted 

three hours and 45 minutes on Rod Laver Arena. The last set seemed neverending, 

as each of the players kept winning on their serve. 

The American had to call a medical timeout late in the third set because of a toe-curling problem. 

Davis said: "I think my second toes are infected. 

I was just jamming them a lot with how much I was moving around the court."

"That first match point just, I felt something and I couldn't really put any pressure 

- it was my right toe, and then it eventually was my left toe, also. "

"The trainer wrapped them really well and I was able to move fine after that."

“Was very tough match. So long. I never played a third set so long,’’ said Halep. 

“So I’m really happy that I could stay and win it. I’m almost dead."

“I have no idea how much I run, I just know that my muscles are gone. 

My ankle… I can’t feel it any more. But it was nice to win and to again 

be in the fourth round of this tournament is great.’’

Her Australian coach, Darren Cahill labelled it a “magnificent” effort from players,

 the fight extraordinary, and tenacity remarkable.

 “It was just an heroic effort from both ladies, but really proud of Simona,’’ he said.

Having never played such a lengthy match, the Romanian faces a huge challenged to 

recover for the matches to come. She had carried in a left ankle injury from her opening 

round against Australian Destanee Aiava, and have been on anti-inflammatories and pain-killers since.

“For sure they wore off by the end of the match,’’ said Cahill, who also coached

 Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi to No.1. “But she’s a tough chick.’’

Halep has yet to win a Grand Slam tournament. She has a mixed record at the 

Australian Open, being eliminated in the first round in four of her seven appearances, 

including her past two campaigns, 2016 and 2017.

<비행기에서 보이는 멋진 하늘>

요즘 미세먼지로 인해 맨날 답답해서 유럽으로 가는 날이 왔으니까 마음이 편해진  것 같습니다. 

짐이 너무 많았지만 다 가져 가고 싶어서 가방 구석 구석에서 김, 뻬뻬로, 

엄마가 좋아하는 인스턴트 생강차 등등을 다 넣었어요 ㅎㅎㅎㅎ

비행기는 오후 3시 20분에 출발이어서 점심을 공항에서 먹으려고 일찍 나갔어요. 

염창역에서 김포공항역까지 9호선 타고 김포에서 공항선으로 갈아탔습니다.

공항까지 배가 고파졌죠 ㅋㅋㅋ 그래서 도착하자마자 식당을 찾아 봤어요. 

4층에 있는 한식당에 들어가서 자리는 창문 바로 옆에 있어서 view가 너무 좋았어요. 

그리고 거기 제가 탈 루프탄자 비행기도 있었네요 ㅎㅎ

밥은 맛있고 배부르게 먹었어요^^

면세점 들어가니까 거기 가게들는 거의 다 이름이 중국어로 되어 있었고 직원들이 

중국어를 할 줄 알았네요 ㅋㅋ 중국 관관객들이 소비를 많이 하나 봐요. 

비행기 탈 시간 다 돼서 빨리 케이트로 갔어요.

드디에 비행기 탔어요 ㅎㅎ 옆어 두 자리가 비워 있어서 너어어무 너무 기뻤어요 ㅋㅋ

이번 비행기 여행 기대됩니다~~~~

우와 근데 지난 겨울에 대한한공을 타고 나서는 이 비행기가 정말 불편해 보이네요 ㅎㅎㅎ

저는 대한항공이 최고임 ㅋㅋ

그래도 사람이 많이 없었으니까 좋았어요.

자리는 비행기 뒤에 잡았어요..왠지 탈 때마다 뒤에 자리를 선택해요.

이유는.. 뒤에 사람들이 많이 앉지 않아서 항상 옆에 사람이 없는 것을 바라기 때문이죠 ㅋㅋ

마지막 3 번은 맞았어요 ㅎㅎㅎ

다음으로 밥이 어떻게 나올지 궁금했어요. 

채식주의자 아니지만 생선 말고는 다른 고기를 안 먹어서 베제태리언 메뉴를 선택했어요. 

그런데 처음으로 Asian vegetarian-hindu (인도 스타일 음식)를 골랐어요. 

인도 음식을 좋아해서 밥이 뭐 나올지 빨리 알고 싶었죠 ㅎㅎ

아이구 근데 다른 사람들이 밥을 받기 전에, 제 음식이 더 일찍 나왔어요 .. 

옆에 사람들이 주변을 쳐다보고 왜 저만 음식을 받았는지 .. 아아 정말 어색했어요  …

먹을까 말까 하다가 그냥 먹기로 했어요. 저 항상 배가 고프니까 ㅋㅋㅋ

<채식이랑 다이어리 -우유 들어있는것- 원래 이도에서 고기를 안 먹는 

사람들이 채식과 다이어리만 먹어요. 사실인지 모르지만 인도 친구가 그랬어요 ㅋㅋ>

맛있었는데 양이 적었어요 ㅎㅎㅎㅎ

혹시 여러분도 비행기 타실 때 음식을 제일 먼저 받고 싶으시다면 special meal을 선택하세요. 

저는 지금까지 베제태리언 메뉴를 자주 골라봤는데 항상 밥을 일찍 받았어요^^

지난 번에 대한항공에서 ovo-lacto-vegeratian으로 했는데 지금 계란을 안 먹어요. 

완전 비건 –vegan- 메뉴는 밥이 너무 맛없게 나오거나 샐로드만 나오거나 걱정이니까 비건 메뉴를 고르기 싫어요.

몇 년 전에 러시아 항공 아에로플로트에서 그렇게 했는데 아주 맛없었어요 ㅎㅎㅎ

근데 아에로플로트는 다 안 좋아요 ㅋㅋㅋ 물 달라고 할 때 안 주고 ..

비행기 안에서 뭐하죠?? 밥 먹고 누웠는데 잠이 안 왔어요. 

영화 보기 시작하고 30분 정도 보고 지루해졌어요.. 

창문 커버를 올라니까 우와아아 멋있는 하늘!! 사진 찍고 이 글을 쓰기로 했어요.

아 근데 비행기 안 공기가 너무 건조해요 ㅠ 

나이를 먹어서 그런지 건조한 것을 견딜 수 없어요 ㅋㅋ 

그래서 화장실에 가서 갖고 있는 스카프를 물로 젖어서 코를 가렸어요. 이게 좋은 팁이에요 ^^.

11시간에서 5 개 남았어요. 배고 고픔 ㅠㅠ

다행기 샌드위치 나왔어요^^

왠지 모르지만 저는 2개 받았어요 ㅎㅎㅎ

둘 다 맛 었었음

두번째 식사는 인도 음식 아니었네요

맛도 그냥 그랬어요 ㅜ

<빵이 너무 딱딱해서 유통기한이 지나간 것 처럼 느껴졌어요 ㅋㅋ>

<다행히 가방에 김이 있어서 조금 더 맛있게 먹을 수 있었어요 ㅋㅋㅋ

저 너무 한국인이 된 거 아닌가요...>

<Frankfurt 공항에서 갈아타는 중..

근데 감짝 놀랐어요! Cabin bag으를 다시 확인 했어요. 우와 유럽 시큐리티가

이렇게 심해졌다는 걸 몰랐어요 ㅠㅠ>

Nurnberg으로 작은 비행기 타고 드디어 도착!!

몸이 피곤하고 한국인들 안 보이고 ... 뭔가 외국에서 있는 느낌이었어요...

이제 한국에 있는 것이 정상이고 유럽에 있는 것 비정상 ㅋㅋ

요즘 유럽 날씨는 지금 한국보다 더 다뜻하다고 비도 온다고 들었는데 눈이 오네요!

좋다 ^^

서울에서 전혀 즐길 수 없는 오리지널 겨울 지금 이 독일 마을에서 경험할 수 있습니다 ^.^

Rainy weather at Shenzen on the day of the finals. 

After continuously being delayed,the game was finally played indoors,

thus it was not streamed online nor televised. 

Simona Halep won her first trophy of the year beating Czech Siniakova in a 3 sets match, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.

Halep and Siniakova also met last year, in 2017, in the Shenzen final, when Siniakova won. 

Siniakova met Sharapova in the semifinals, where she had a tough match that she was able to win i the end. 

Halep's rival in the semifinals was another Romanian, Irina Camelia Begu. 

Begu and Halep played together as a team for the doubles competition which they won.

모든 와인에 잘 어울리는 음식이 있다고 하는데 저는 잘 모르겠어요 ㅋㅋㅋ.

이분이 누구신지 아시나요? ㅋㅋㅋ 괜찮아요^^ 저도 몰랐습니다. 얼굴만 보시면 모르시겠지만 옆에  'Giacomo Puccini'라고 쓰여 있습니다. 자코모 푸치니는 이탈리아의 오페라 자곡가입니다.

지난 토요일에 예술의전당 국립오페라단에서 푸치니의 오페라 '라보엠'이 공연했습니다. 한국에 이런 오페라나 오르케스트라 보러 가는 것은 루마니아 (제 고향이죠^^)와 좀 달라요. 예전이랑 바뀌었을 수도 있지만 제가 루마니아에서 살았을 때 공연 보러 가는 거는 뭔가 어색했어요.. 루마니아에서 오페라 가면  dress code가 있어요. 남자들이 정장을 입고 여자들도 우아하게 입어야 됩니다. 이것은 바로 배우들에게 존경하는 것을 보여주는 의미죠. 한국에서 사람들이 이런 신경을 안 쓰는 것 같아서  오페라 가는 게 부담스럽지 않고 좋아요^^.

앉았던 자리에서 동시에 자막 보기와 무대보기가 좀 어려웠어요. 자막이 나오는 화면이 너무 높았어요. 그래도 아주 불편했다고 할 수는 없습니다^^.

WTA Finals Singapore. The competition reuniting the best 8 players in women’s tennis. It is the last competition of the year, and the most important after the 4 Grand Slams. This year the best world 8 competed against each other in 2 groups, and indeed, each game was worth watching! When the best 8 play among themselves each game is like a final.

 Group standings, semifinals, final & points and prize won. Interesting fact: the participation fee of $ 151 000 is deducted from the prize, so players who did not make it to the final or at least the semifinals, perhaps won't sleep well until the next season begins. :D

Danish player Caroline Wozniacki triumphed over veteran Venus Williams in the final game in Singapore, a game which ended 6-4 6-4. The second set saw Caroline almost winner as she was leading with 5 games to zero, but as champion that she is, Venus made an unforgettable comeback winning 4 games in a row. Caroline however, was strong enough not to be intimidated, ending up with the trophy, and the money of course. Moreover, she climbed 3 positions in the year-end rankings, from no 6 to no 3. 

Caroline reached the fisrt WTA position only once before, between October 2010 and February 2011. She has never won a Grand Slam tournament, which makes this Singapore trophy the most important for her so far.

Incredible Venus, at 37 years old

The most important title in Wozniacki's career. She has never won a Grand Slam. 

But she nailed this final.

THE OTHER STORY, YEAR-END NO 1 IN WOMEN'S TENNIS: SIMONA HALEP. 

THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF ROMANIAN TENNIS EVER

Halep was not able to reach the semifinals. She won her first group game against French Caroline Garcia, but lost to Wozniacki and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina. As the only player who could threaten her no 1 position, Czech Karolina Pliskova lost in the semifinals, she managed to remain the leader in the WTA standings. And she will stay there until the next season begins. 

 Simona said she stills feels very sad for the French Open final she lost last summer, but as one of her goals for 2017 was to be No 1, she ends the year in a positive note. Her game started to improve lately, and it seems that her biggest problem, the mental part, is not as disturbing as it used to be.

One of the most consistent WTA players, finally gets there. But no Grand Slam yet... 

AND YET ANOTHER STORY, CAROLINE GARCIA: THE RISING STAR

Another Caroline, Garcia, was the last to qualify for this year’s finals. WTA No 8, was, personally, my favourite player of this tournament. Very strong mentally and with a powerful attack style game, she put in trouble all the other players she met here. She even beat Wozniacki in the groups. I am looking forward to see her rising even more next year.

Nothing gets more fun on facebook these days than following fans fight over the new world's number 1. From people lamenting there is no one single dominant player in women's tennis, to people arguing one does not need a Grand Slam to be a champion. Consistency or fame? What would you choose?
